Ymir is the Firstborn, the first of the Jötnar, before any human, Aseir, or Vanir. Born from the confrontation of the fire of Muspellheim and the ice of Niflheim in the gaping chasm of Ginnungagap, Ymir, aided by the cow Audhumla who was born after him, but who served as his nurse, saw many beings created from him, who made descendants in their turn. Among them, Odin, Vil and Vé, three brothers who, tired of Ymir's brutality, finally overthrew him, putting an end to his life and using his body to create the world of Midgard and the beings that compose it. And all believed him dead.

For centuries. But the cry of rage that was his last sound crystallised  so strongly in him that a clot of frozen blood remained at the bottom of the abyss, and with a desperate slowness, regained consistency and power. But the essence of this creature, though still there, had been changed, corrupted, and the being that walks again is not really the being it once was, but something else, that has become Ymir in name only. 

Let the gods beware. As it is wisely said, revenge is a dish best served cold.

Ymir is a titan who costs 8 points, and has the talents of ClimbMighty Throw and Block. Like any titan, he has excellent stats, with 10 offence, 9 defencerange 1 and 2 movement. He is the titan with the fewest vitality points: 10.

But he will make up for this with one of his powers as you’ll see.

With the Boreal trait, Ymir ignores the effects of polar terrain. This is a very useful ability in Ragnarök, and more importantly, it is very useful for exploiting his powers.

With his permanent power, Telluric Entity, Ymir places one of his 8 (8!) 3D Frost Desert tokens in his area. Any other 3D elements (scenery) in the area are removed. The terrain becomes polar, and Ymir immediately regains one point of vitality. If Ymir is injured during an attack in an area that has a Frost Desert token, the token is removed.

His other power, Telluric Absorption, is offensive, costs two Art of War cards and allows him to make a powerful area attack (peaking at 9 dice at full vitality) in an adjacent area, which also places a Frost Desert token in that area if the area does not already contain one. The area, as with Telluric Entity, becomes polar and any 3D elements are removed. 

With Ragnarök and the arrival of certain Boreal units (Hrym, Jötunn, Skadi, etc.), Ymir, who until now had a very solitary style of play, will see his possibilities in terms of compositions and strategies increase tenfold.

Ymir also comes with 3D tokens to represent the effect of his abilities, like his opposite Surt, or Jörmungand.
